2 Co-op Modes for the Price of your Sanity

After Monday’s rather negative offering on Heavy Rain, Joe and I felt it would be a good idea to get GamerNode director Eddie Inzauto to join us on a Co-op Mode to talk about the game, as well some thoughts on other Q1 games we’d played. Eddie was supposed to be on Monday’s show, but unfortunately had a family emergency on the day of recording. We were keen to get Eddie involved because he absolutely loved the game, and we were keen to pick his brains as to why.

Due to time constraints, we recorded the show on Tuesday during Joe’s lunch hour. Yup, another Joecast from the Joemobile, with all the hilarious consequences that come with the package.

Anyway, Joe, Eddie and I talked for an hour on Darksiders, Bayonetta, BioShock 2, Dante’s Inferno, and of course Heavy Rain. Joe had to dash back to work after about ten minutes of Heavy Rain chat, and at that point I’d planned to close out the show.

Eddie had other ideas. What proceeded was a further forty or so minutes of Heavy Rain chat, with plenty of debate on design theory and promoting attachment to characters. The discussion cantered around what a player’s role is, should be, and could be in something with intentions on being an interactive drama. It was totally impromptu and it may be total garbage – I was involved, after all – but I think we produced some interesting thoughts that are worthy of a listen and your further consideration.

So, what we’ve decided to do is split that recording into two Co-op Mode shows. The first will feature the Q1 chat between the three of us, with a bit of Heavy Rain talk on the end. The second will feature mine and Eddie’s further discussion on Heavy Rain. We’ll be releasing both shows on Monday.

And I think, after that, we’ll all be Heavy Rain-ed out.
