Digital Independence

There’s nothing more likely to give you an inappropriately swollen ego than being asked to talk about what you do, so I’ll try my hardest not to sound too smug in this post. Nonetheless, Joe and I would like to point you in the direction of our friends over at The Digital Cowboys, Alex Shaw and Tony Atikins. They asked us, and members from eleven other podcasts including our UGN friends GamerDork, about our reasons for podcasting. They’ve compiled all the answers into a package that they’ve called Independence.

Taken from their site: “It’s not only a festival of independent video game podcasts, but also a very personal one… independent podcasting pays no money so there has to be a very specific reason why each of us gets up there every week and puts out a show. Some of the answers may surprise you, and all of them are fascinating and entertaining.”

As I’ve said on the show before, despite being part of the GameOn and UGN networks, Joe and I don’t make a dime out of Big Red Potion. As such, getting asked this question got us to sit down and examine why we spend five to six (sometimes stressful) hours over our little show, and I certainly found it interesting to reflect on how my reasons for making BRP have changed over time. It’s indeed fascinating and entertaining to hear other podcasters’ reasons as well, and I think for anyone remotely interested in gaming podcasts it’s an absolute must-listen. And since you’re here, that probably means you.

So, please check out the show and also Alex and Tony’s Digital Cowboys podcast, something that’s quickly become a fixture on my iPod. Finally, allow me to suggest taking at least a little time out to check all the other podcasts and podcasters that were included in the show. After all, it won’t cost you, right?
