About
“Part of the TheGameReviews GameOn network, Big Red Potion is a weekly podcast providing debate on video games and the video game industry. Each episode features Sinan Kubba, Joe DeLia, and their guests focussing on and dissecting one gaming topic in satiating detail until there is nothing left to devour. If you are looking for intelligent discussion on what matters in gaming, have a sip of the Big Red Potion.”
Big Red Potion was launched by Sinan Kubba in February 2009. The aim was to produce something engaging yet distinctive in the ever-expanding ocean of gaming podcasts. Sinan originally setup the show with himself and two guests discussing one gaming topic, and only one gaming topic, within 60-90 minute episodes. In March 2009 TheGameReviews picked up the show as part of their GameOn network. This coincided with the introduction of Joseph DeLia as Big Red Potion’s Second Chair, which he’s been from Episode 6 onwards, and now each show features Sinan, Joe and their two guests. In May 2009, Big Red Potion became part of the Unified Gamers Network, a friendly community of podcasts that presently includes Cranky Gamers UK, Frugal Gaming, Gamerdork and Ninja Fat Pigeons. If you’d like to listen to the show, Big Red Potion can be found on the iTunes portal, and through Zune. You can directly subscribe to the podcast feed here. You can also stream episodes from the relevant posts on this site.
The name: Big Red Potion was christened in celebration of the classic video game Rainbow Islands, a devilishly difficult and wonderfully intricate beast. With regards obtaining its special power-ups, it was especially difficult; this required players to kill enemies in specific parts of the screen - in order - to produce seven crystals, each one a rainbow colour. Doing this produced a power-up at the end of each world. The power-up for the second world was a big red potion, and obtaining it gave the player the power to produce double rainbows. Sinan felt it was a quirky, obscure name that would suit a quirky, obscure podcast.
